Fonzolution

The secret behind “Fonzy” : Nicknames are not something you can sit and think about; people are giving nicknames cos of one single incident or some recurring thing he does. So back in 1998 I was a student in the American University of Beirut (AUB) and at that time we would always chill on what is known as the Green Oval. One day I went to uni wearing jeans, and a leather jacket and had just came from the hairdresser looking all clean and stuff :P I bump into Joejoe, Raghid, and Mazen when I walked in and they just look at me and together they say “Fonzy!!” :D Apparently, I looked like Fonzy on that day and ever since, I was known as Fonzy.

Who is Fonzy? Fonzy is a character in an old sitcom known as Happy Days. {Fonzy’s Pic}

How did I get into blogging? Well, I had been hearing for quite some time about blogs and how much of a happening thing it has become all over the world and how popular it has become in Kuwait & Lebanon. Ever since I came to Kuwait, I have had more time on my hands to work more on my hobbies but still always had some free time. So I thought I would give blogging a shot. So I started my own blog “Fonzy in Kuwait” in May 2006 with my first post. And that was it, I quit for two months and then was convinced to try again by Jazz Central and started again. And ever since I got more involved with blogging and with time got to know how the blogosphere works and how to enjoy it.

So how did “Fonzation” come up? With time, my blog got more widespread and I was attracting readers from outside Kuwait and my topics did not only cover Kuwait. Also, I wanted a one-word name that doesn’t exist, basically invent a word and give it a meaning hence……… Fonzation :) I was thinking of a word that includes my nick Fonzy and in a way refers to a something plural. So I thought of Fonzy’s Nation and slowly threw some letters out and came up with Fonzation.

Blog Evolution: I started off with the simplest most boring template but was working hard on the posts using slide shows and edited pictures and so on. Didnt think the template had much importance plus I didn’t know anything about HTML. But I started playing around with the code and did manage to analyze some code. At that time, I was using the simple blogger template. Once blogger beta was introduced, I switch to that and got me a new template with a nice header and background and it was then that my blog began getting popular and attracted many readers, of which many returned since they liked what they saw. I gotta admit, I liked the idea of people enjoying reading my posts. A couple of months later, I got bored of the template and wanted to design something of my own, so I fixed up a three column template blog, my previous blog. I was proud of what I had done, especially that I am seriously HTML illiterate :P But I was getting lots of feedback on the design and recommendations and I was trying to meet them all. I then bought the domain www.fonzation.com and kept it for future use. Then one day, one of my best blogger buddies, Ananyah, offered to design me a blog with a kick-ass header with a lot of funky options, and as she refers to it, I have been nani-pimped :D This blog you see is her design and so far, all we got was positive feedback.

Future Plans: There are many ideas and plans both me and Ananyah have for my blog and every now and then, new links and options will be added.
