Metal Gear Solid 4: Review

June 17th, 2008

“Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots” is the talk of the town, especially since it was released in Kuwait 3 days before the US release date (read Mark’s post). I got it around 10 days ago and been playing it for at least 3 hours a day. Me spending so many hours on the game and actually sleeping very late cos of it is enough proof as to how amazing the game is. Basically, you play the hero, Solid Snake, who is suffering from some accelerated aging disease and is called in for one last mission. The world is being run by a technology called nanomachines which control human emotions, actions, even the guns they shoot. Snake’s twin brother, Liquid, is on a mission to take over the world. Your mission is to kill Liquid but to get to him you have to face 4 beasts.

You have to go through a series of missions, using stealth and warfare equipped with tons of weapons and a new OctoCamo suit, which allows Snake to camouflage into his surroundings making him somewhat invisible. With a few friends on his side, its Snake against Liquid’s PMC soldiers and beasts facing their final experience of saving the world.

The gameplay is a lot of fun, controls are easy to manage but take some time getting use to, the weapons are endless and customizing them makes them even better. The graphics are very well done and the attention to detail is impressive. I liked how they focused on having a lot of females in the game, all with incredible bodies and faces, dressed in the sexiest outfits ever! The only problem with the game are the cut scenes; they are way too long. At some points, it takes minutes to load the next scene. Some cut scenes could take up to 20 minutes, which can get get pretty boring, but watching them is necessary to understand the game. Still, a definite must play game. I got to Act 4 and I think I have one more to go to finish the game.

Nice game but why should they brake the release date it’s stupid to do so, and maybe results in punishments in future, people obey the law… follow the publishers date

    Minor correction:

The game actually didn’t release in Kuwait ahead of the US because the game that was distributed that day wasn’t the American version but the Asian version. Thus, Konami didn’t break MGS4 date in terms of American release. If you ask me, I would rather wait for 3 days and get my hands on the Limited Edition of MGS4.

Otherwise, excellent game and excellent review Fonzy :)

    You are most welcomed ^_^

Oh, and the limited edition will include:

    * Collectible packaging with exclusive artwork.

    * A Blu-ray disc featuring two “making of” documentaries that include interviews with creator Hideo Kojima.

    * Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots soundtrack CD.

It costs 84.99$ though! I recommend it for MGS fanatics who wants to squeeze everything the game has to offer.
