Exaggerated Traffic Penalties: Deportation

April 16th, 2008

I have full respect and completely support how the ministry is doing its best to impose traffic laws in Kuwait.  But at times, I think they are overdoing it with the penalties.  Just read an article on Arab Times about expats who fail to respect the traffic rules.  Apparently, now they can be deported if they jump a red light and have previous traffic violations… in other words, 2 strikes and you’re out!

Examples of these strict penalities of traffic violations are one man who was driving at 180 km/hr on an 80 km/hr speed limit road without a driving license and was deported.  Another example is a Syrian car mechanic who jumped a red light three times, and will be deported; well I gotta say this guy deserves to be deported cos he was stupid enough to confess during the interrogation that he jumped the red light cos he was trying to escape from police who were chasing him for driving the vehicle of a client without permission, who filed a comlpaint.

Either way, personally, I think deportation is too extreme.  Fining them or jailing them was too much already.  How about by revoking his license as a start.

What next?? I doubt there anything worse..

They should have harsh penalties for the locals as well.

Most of do crazy driving in this country are the citizens. The Ministry is acting as the whole traffic problem is caused by Expats when we all know
most of the crazy driving maniacs are Kuwaities.

The laws are not unfair. Many drivers have complete disregard for basic traffic regulations and it is about time something is done about it.

It seems the only way to decrease the number of traffic violations and the outrageous careless driving is by threatening people with such punitive measures.

Sometimes I wonder on what basis these people were given driving licenses.

I disagree that Kuwaitis drive worse than non-Kuwaitis. There are just alot of bad drivers of all nationalities.

Stricter punishments for Kuwaitis called for as well.

This is the price we pay for corruption in traffic departments where wastas are sought for those seeking licenses and not good driving skills and knowledge.
