Seven Seas: Review

July 9th, 2007

main entrance.JPG
Don’t know if you noticed the new place that opened up above the lebanese restaurant Burj Al Hamam, on Gulf Road. A new place, Seven Seas, opened not more than a month ago on the floor above Burj Al Hamam. The place is mostly a fish restaurant with a couple of other dishes of meat and chicken. When you walk in, you take a glass elevator to the top floor and you are there. You are greeted very warmly with a big smile by the hostess, seats you at the table, and introduces you to your waiter.

When it comes to fish, they have a diversified menu with many choices. You can either have frozen or fresh fish which you can choose out of the fish bar in the middle of the restaurant.

I would say the fish bar is the highlight of the place. With an aquarium in the middle, you got all kinds of fish, shrimp, lobster, and other sea food laid on the ice around the aquarium. They also got private rooms, which they call cabins: you got the lobster cabin, oyster cabin, and the blue maroon cabin (I think).

I am not a fan of sea food, but I still had to try it out. My dad, on the other hand, loves fish so when judging the food, it was his judgment I based this review on. This is what I (we) thought of the place:

Pros:
(1) Decoration is simple yet professionally done and fits as a seafood place
(2) Very friendly and competent staff
(3) Service is pretty fast it being a seafood reastaurant
(4) Portions are pretty filling
(5) Food is delicious and presentation is beautiful, gives you an appetite
(6) The atmosphere is very friendly
(7) Diversified menu
(8) Will do their best to gain your satisfaction; for example I wanted a dish from Burj Al Hamam downstairs and they got it for me

Cons:
(1) Overpriced; could reach 13KD per person
(2) Not many people go there, I guess it needs time

Would I Go There Again?
Well, I cant answer that question fairly cos am not a fan of seafood, but if I was, I would make it a weekly visit, I know my dad would.

To reserve, you may contact them at 256 4391 / 92.  Thank you Amin for the info.

Would you eat in a restaurant that has
Sheep and cows hanging… just like in the slaughter house?

Why is it any different for the fishes?

    Cons:
    (1) Overpriced; could reach 13KD per person.
    - It’ll definitely cost more when I go there. Seafood, Yummy! (I don’t mind though as long as I’m satisfied)
    (2) Not many people go there, I guess it needs time.
    - Cause it’s still a soft opening)

I’ve been there, it was a blast! a bit of a salty blast though… I ordered the lobster with mushroom and cheese.
and the appetizers were amazing too.

[...] Its tradition that many people follow, on the first day of Ramadan, iftar is usually a big family gathering or people go out to dine. So we decided to go to Burj Al Hamam. As I mentioned before, it is my number 1 restaurant in Kuwait, but recently was disappointed by their budget cuts and increased prices; the food was still good. Last year, we also had iftar there on the first day. When we first walked in, there was Quran playinh and people were all sitting waiting for chow time… But to my surprise, the place wasn’t as packed as I expected it to be. I had reserved for us a few days earlier thinking it would be full. Nonetheless, we got a very welcoming greeting by the staff and waiters who seemed to be very energetic to leave a good impression. It was a buffet with loads of appetizers that filled the table; those alone filled me up. As good as they were, they used to be better in the past. Then came the main course which was a buffet of more than a dozen different kinds of dishes of fish, meat, chicken, and barbeque. Honestly, I wasnt too into the main course cos the appetizers were the main reason I was there. But there was a good variety. Then came the sweets. For some reason I couldnt get a proper pic cos the lighting. But there was a lot of stuff to choose from, I had “znood al sit”, “kolaj”, and “fawashat”; all yummy I think the service is as great as it always has been but the quality of the food declined. I still do enjoy their food but I dont drool and look forward to it like the old days. On top of it all, it is way too damn expensive… we paid around 11KD per person for this iftar! I do advise you to try it, just not a weekly thing. And, if you havent tried Seven Seas, on the top floor, I suggest you do. [...]

Seven Seas is the best seafood restaurant that i know, i can say the food they serve is clean because of the filipino kitchen staff.
