Noodle Factory: Review

July 2nd, 2007

noodle factory.jpg
Been hearing a lot about Noodle Factory in the Avenues Mall past few weeks so I decided to go try it out myself. From what I heard and saw, they serve chinese and thai food mainly. After walking for 15 minutes, I finally found it all the way in the corner in one end of the mall. When I first saw it, I was actually impressed by the decoration and the host outside was very welcoming that he immediately explained to us the theme of the place and the cuisine they offer. He seated us on a nice table with the kitchen behind us, which was surrrounded by glass so we can see inside the cooks doing their thing, which was a nice view. As soon as we sat, the table was set in a matter of seconds and the waiter was giving us a brief on some recommendations of beef, chicken, duck, and so on. The food, on the other hand, didn’t live up to my expectations; I had better chinese in places much less known and less advertised. All in all, I had mixed feelings about the place.

Pros:

(1) Attractive decoration, especially sitting there and watching the cooks
(2) Very friendly and competent staff
(3) Service is the fastest I have seen for a chinese restaurant
(4) Portions are pretty filling
(5) Food presentation is beautiful, makes you want to eat it
(6) The atmosphere is very friendly
(7) Diversified menu

Cons:

(1) The food wasn’t as good as I expected. I ordered the Szechuan beef, and it tasted a bit like burgers, and the chicken sweet and sour, and I definitely had better at the small China Town.
(2) Though the service was fast, they should be more careful cos to meet the time limit they end up putting the flames on high burning the food which is what happened to my Szechuan beef.
(3) Dishes are way overpriced, on average it is 6KD per person
(4) As much as I loved the staff, I think management spent more time and money on trying to look good than on the food tasting unique

Would I Go There Again? Sure, why not. Every once in a while.

Ive been there 4 times.. The food is good, but the service is really bad. And the menu sucks.. u cant understand anything! So u have to ask them to explain each item, yet u won’t understand anything they say coz of the Weird accent they have!

Actually to correct everyone’s info. The place isn’t Chinese at all. The food served is Indonesian, not Chinese.
Unless you like Indo food, then I guess you should go back to China Town. :P

There’s this lebanese waiter with a weird english accent, I asked him to speak in arabic..ALSO weird accent..I gave up on him. He’s the one with the teeth.

A group of us went there last Thursday and we all loved the place for both the ambiance and the food. We had:
    - Sweet and Sour Prawns
    - Bami Noodles (the Indonesian type)
    - Thai Green Curry with rice
    - Thai Noodles (the flat ones) with prawns.

Everything tasted great and the waiters courteous.

Agree with Halicy regarding the menu though (confusing :( ) !

Whatever everyone says, this place is still better than 99% of other noddle/asian/chinese/thai places in Kuwait!

    Oh my God, Guys!

I just tried Golden Chopsticks (delivery) a couple of days ago and it was one of the worst Chinese meals I have had in this country.
The food was absolutely, utterly tasteless! And I was so excited by both Fonzy’s and Halicy’s positive comments to try it out but was deeply disappointed.

    First and last time.

    Halicy,

Are we talking Golden Chopsticks in Shaab here?
It wasn’t that it was cold. We ordered Chicken in Black Bean Sauce and Beef with Oyster Sauce.
The mushrooms with black bean sauce were chewy! I mean I could not put them in my mouth, let alone digets them.
All the food lacked salt and any hint of any chinese flavour (like soy sauce or ginger, etc.). What’s with that?!?

Even the oyster sauce with the beef wasn’t very oystery!!!

My wife and I kept left-overs for the next day but decided (wisely) against eating them.

Like I said, Halicy, truly disappointing….and were starving too :(

am sure somthing is wrong, if u want, i can take u to the owner to talk to her since shes allways interested in knowing what her clients think abt the food. but i asure u that no one ever complaind man! but in general.. my bad :)
